Adeyeye Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi was born on October 17, 1974, in the city of Ile-Ife, to the royal family of Aderopo Ogunwusi and late Wuraola Ogunwusi of the Giesi Royal House, Agbedegbede Compound. His father was a radio and television anchor star in Nigeria’s south-western region from the mid-1980s to the early 21st century.
Ogunwusi is the 51st Ooni of Ile-Ife and an accountant. Ooni Drin Ologbenla was his family’s last Ooni (1880-1894). Ooni Ogunwusi took over as Ojaja (II). Ojaja (I) belonged to Agbedegbede Compound, Iremo Quarters (the ancestral home of the Giesi).

Ooni Ogunwusi is the fifth of his father’s seven children. His father, Prince Ropo Ogunwusi, a veteran broadcaster. He is the third son in a family of six and has three sisters.

On October 26, 2015, he was chosen as the king-elect from among 21 Ooni stool contenders to succeed the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, who died on July 28, 2015. Rauf Aregbesola, Governor of Osun State, made the announcement.
