Popular Nigerian author and feminist, Chimamanda Adichie has cleared the air on the real reasons she became a feminist in a new interview. According to her, she never had the intention of being a feminist but seeing how women were regularly oppressed in society inspired her to take the path she took. She further criticized the pressure her society imposes on women who marry late, don’t have children, or walk out of abusive relationships or marriages.

She revealed all of these in an interview she had with WIMBIZ today, Friday, November 4. Her words, “I did not set out to be a feminist icon, but I cannot stand the way women are being abused in the society and I feel like I have a platform that can make a difference no matter how little.
